After a successful Ten Tors 2025 in May we are now looking ahead to Ten Tors 2026 and have been allocated 2 teams in the 35 mile Challenge and 1 team in the 45 mile Challenge for the Ten Tors 2026 in May 2026. WE ARE NOW LOOKING FOR TEAM MEMBERS TO TRAIN FOR AND FILL THESE TEAMS – Please contact us (see bottom of page) if you are interested in participating and from September 2025 you are in school yr 9 or above. Advertising flyers seeking members for our teams are available from our forms and downloads page Note: We are looking for team members to come from Explorer Scout Units and older Scouts from within Cotswold Edge District and if we are not able to fill our teams from within our district will open them up to members from other nearby scout districts.

A Parents and Participants Information Meeting was held on Saturday 18th October 2025 which provided information about the event, kit needed and training. Training starts on Saturday 8th November 2025 and continues through to April 2026. A calendar of meetings and training is available on the Training Dates and Locations page of this website.

We ask that the Registration and Health form is completed prior to attending your first training session – available from Forms and Downloads page.

The Kit List and other documents for Ten Tors 2026 will be added to the forms and downloads page of our website when finalised for 2026. Old versions are available for information only.

Parents and Participants Information

If you are interested in training for Ten Tors 2026 the training starts in early November 2025, the Parents and Participants Information Meeting was held on morning of Saturday 18th October 2025.  If you missed the meeting, or wish to see the information again, the slides used in the presentation are available on our Forms and Downloads page.  We accept new participants to join the training during the first couple of months of the training.  

Teams for Ten Tors 2026

As a district we have entered teams for the Ten Tors challenge on Dartmoor which will be on the weekend of 8th-10th May 2026.  We have been allocated teams for both the 35 mile challenge and 45 mile challenge (but not 55 mile team – anyone interested in 55 mile challenge can contact us and we can pass you on to another scout District in the area) so we are seeking candidates to ensure we have enough participants to fill these teams.

Our teams are open to members of all 7 of our district Explorer Scout Units, Young Leaders and older Scouts from any Group in our District, who fall into the following date of birth ranges:

• For the 35 mile Challenge, for those 14 or 15 on 31/08/2026, i.e. in school yr 9 or 10, participants must have been born between 1st September 2010 and 31st August 2012.

• For the 45 mile Challenge,  for those 16 or 17 on 31/08/2026, i.e. in school yr 11 or 12, participants must have been born between 1st September 2008 and 31st August 2010.  The 45 mile Challenge is also open to those who are 15, school yr 10, if they have completed a Ten Tors Challenge previously. 

• For the 55 mile Challenge, for those 18 or 19 on 31/08/2026, i.e. in school yr 13 + yr after,  participants must have been born between 1st September 2006 and 31st August 2008.  The 55 mile Challenge is also open to those who are 17, school yr 12, if they have completed a Ten Tors Challenge previously. 

For several years we have trained teams which have successfully completed this annual challenge on Dartmoor.  In the past we have had members who were still Scouts, not yet moved up to Explorers, when they started training. The training is progressive so you don’t need to be fully walking fit or even know anything about navigation as you will build up strength and stamina during training and those with an interest in being team navigators will get appropriate training and support. We will hold a parents and participants meeting, in October, once we know that the organisers have approved our application and therefore have confirmation of how many teams we have been granted. The training will start soon after.

For those who are doing the Duke of Edinburgh Award (which should be all Explorers) this can contribute the award as it counts as training for a DofE Expedition and one of the training weekends will be a Bronze Award DofE Qualifying Expedition and one of our training weekends on Dartmoor may be a Silver Award Practice Expedition.
